Authors of the month - December

Catamarans and Sunbeams (Year 6 and Year 5) - Robin Stevens

Robin Stevens is an incredible children’s murder mystery author, her award-winning Murder Most Unladylike series loved by millions of fans. These books are perfect for you if you love a thrilling murder mystery, woven with mind-boggling clues, unlikely suspects and pure adventure. Her two other brilliant murder mystery books, The Ministry of Unladylike Activity and The Body in the Blitz are also part of the Murder Most Unladylike series, and are another example of perfect detective novels. The only con about her amazing books are some scenes in her books contain a little violence.

Wayfarers and Lasers (Year 4 and Year 3) - Roald Dahl 

Roald Dahl is a brilliant children author, who has written over 40 amazing books. He is extremely creative and the founder of 500 boggling and expressive words. His books are a perfect example of well-written children’s books for any age between 5 - 13. Overall, Roald Dahl’s books are a mix of imaginative ideas, unexpected twists and turns, and peculiar but at the same time joyous and rich vocabulary.

Fevas and Toppers (Year 2 and Year 1)

Paula Harrison is the author of the amazing Kitty series, The Rescue Princesses and the Secret Rescuers. She has written over 50 books, all bursting with clever plots, thrilling language and brave characters. All her books feature animals, so if you enjoy fantasy, action-packed adventures with environment friendly themes, these books will be perfect for you. Some of Paula Harrison’s books (such as Kitty) are generally recommended for the younger members of our school, ages 5-7, as they contain younger themes. Some of her other books (such as the Secret Rescuers) are more suitable for ages 7-9. Overall, her books are spectacular for ages between 5-9!

Authors of the Month - November

Catamarans and Sunbeams (Year 6 and Year 5): J.K Rowling 

J.K Rowling is the author of the famous Harry Potter series and many other amazing books, like the Ickabog and the Christmas Pig. She enjoyed writing from a very young age. Her books are mostly adventure and fantasy, with daring twists and happy endings. Some of the later Harry Potter books may have some older content within for younger members of KS2, but if you enjoy action-packed and magical novels, you will love her books!

Wayfarers and Lasers (Year 4 and Year 3): Peter Brown  

 Peter Brown is the author of the famous Wild Robot trilogy, and has also written an incredible selection of picture books that some of the younger years will definitely fall in love with. These colourful, inspiring books with stunning artwork are perfect examples of well-written children’s books. His award-winning Wild Robot series is another collection of books that children from ages seven upwards will adore. The only con about this brilliant trilogy is it features a few scenes that some children might be a bit sensitive to.

Fevas and Toppers (Year 2 and Year 1): Julia Donaldson                                     

Julia Donaldson is the author of over 200 books, most of them amazing picture books, like Room on the Broom and The Scarecrows wedding. She is best known for the stunning titles of The Gruffalo and Stick Man, and I am sure every child in KS1 either will or already adore her books. These colourful, imaginative books are the perfect way to introduce your child to reading, help them enjoy learning about different elements of magical characters and how to use rhyming in writing!!!
